2 Line Cordless Phones - 5.8GHz Versus DECT 6.0 Phones

!±8± 2 Line Cordless Phones - 5.8GHz Versus DECT 6.0 Phones

The hunt for the best 2 line cordless phones has become more difficult. Until early 2009 the only options worth considering were 5.8 GHz two line cordless phones from Panasonic or Uniden. For fans of Panasonic cordless phones it couldn't have been easier. The only option on offer was the iconic Panasonic KX-TG6702B. Uniden on the other hand presented numerous options including the TRU8866, TRU9466 and TRU9496. The main differences between them boiled down to whether or not they included answering machines, dual keypads or corded cordless configurations.

DECT 6.0 Two Line Cordless Phone

DECT 6.0 technology is now unstoppable. Both consumers and manufacturers are sold on DECT cordless home phones. They're cheaper to produce and present fewer cordless phone problems.

The challenge for Panasonic and Uniden was one of timing. When to release their DECT 6.0 cordless phones. On the one hand they didn't want to cannibalize sales of their 5.8 GHz phones. On the other hand there was an advantage to be had in being the first vendor to announce a DECT 2 line phone.

In the end it was Panasonic that made the first move in releasing a DECT 6.0 cordless phone with 2 lines. The Panasonic KX-TG9392T was released in early 2009. Once Panasonic moved the rest followed. DECT two line cordless phones were released by: Philips, GE, RCA, Verizon / Siemens and finally the Uniden 4086 appeared.

A problem for Panasonic and Uniden was that in making the move from 5.8 GHz to DECT 6.0 technology they ran the risk of losing their proprietary edge. Both Uniden and Panasonic 5.8 GHz phones are robust and loaded with features. They are head and shoulders better than the products produced by their nearest competitors. But DECT 6.0 digital technology is a non-proprietary open standard. It levels the playing field and commoditizes the options. To differentiate their products the manufacturers must depend more on branding and exploit opportunities for adding bells and whistles where they can.

The Panasonic KX-TG9381T is a Bluetooth enabled DECT 6.0 cordless phone with 2 lines. It has got the usual features of a Bluetooth cordless phone plus the ability to download phone books from cell phones via a Bluetooth connection. The KX-TG9381T is an example of how Panasonic is differentiating it's DECT multi line cordless phones by adding bells and whistles.

Best Cordless Phones Review - The Benchmark

!±8± Best Cordless Phones Review - The Benchmark

If there is one thing about cordless phones on which everyone seems to agree, it's that there is no shortage of options. That's why it's essential to find the best cordless phones review before locking in a decision. Do you remember the days when there were only a few to choose from? Well today there are an almost unlimited number with new models released daily. Take the case of Panasonic phones, they include: DECT 6.0 or DECT 6.0 Plus phones, Bluetooth or Link-to-Cell phones, multi-line corded cordless telephones, 5.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz and long range phones, just to name a few.

Panasonic has the most extensive range of options. It is the market leader in most segments. The latest Panasonic cordless telephones include expandable digital models - KX-TG4011N, models with range extenders - KX-TG4053B, dual keypads - KX-TG9344T, Bluetooth cordless phones - KX-TG6582T and so on. The original Panasonic DECT 6.0-phones are also still available. For example the KX-TG1032S was almost certainly the biggest selling cordless telephone of all time. It's a classic that consumers continue to buy despite the availability of later and more advanced models. The Panasonic KX-TG4500B is similarly regarded as the benchmark 4 line phone despite stiff competition from the AT&T SB67118.

There are then the alternatives manufactured by Panasonic's competitors: AT&T, Vtech, GE, Motorola and Uniden. DECT 6.0 technology is the latest and most advanced technology. However it's not the solution for every requirement. Take the case of ultra-long range cordless phones where the 900 MHz frequency still reigns supreme.

Best Cordless Phones

A best cordless phones review must help in selecting a phone that will meet your requirements. In the "old days" shopping for a phone was nowhere near as complicated. Consumer reviews confirm that many buyers invest hours, even days studying the options. Fortunately, there are still basic phones that are adequate for consumers who don't need a lot of features. They can choose options with or without digital answering machines. The latest phones are also expandable from one through to six handsets, or in some cases twelve (AT&T and Vtech phones).

Panasonic Cordless Telephones

Panasonic has established a reputation in the cordless telephone market for being the most innovative manufacturer. Whatever the technology, whether DECT 6.0, Bluetooth, link-to-cell, 4 line cordless phones, range extenders..., Panasonic inevitably introduces these innovations first and sets the benchmark. Furthermore, while not the cheapest cordless phones the cost difference is not great. Four, five and six handset models are the best buys.

DECT 6.0 Plus Phones

The latest Panasonic DECT 6.0 Plus telephones have significantly raised the bar. While still conforming with the DECT 6.0 standard they offer additional features that consumers clearly want. These include enhanced call clarity, increased range, greater battery life, reduced power consumption (eco-mode), larger displays, rubberized non-slip hand grips, talking caller-ID, silent mode, call blocking...

Plenty of Pros and Few Cons

Panasonic Bluetooth cordless telephones such as the KX-TG6582T can automatically pair with your cell phone or Bluetooth headset as you walk in the front door. Once connected you can answer or make cell phone calls from any one of it's cordless handsets. It works so well that many users ditch their land line phone service to go 100% cellular.

Summary

The Panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless telephones are state of the art phones that only get better with each new release.

The Bluetooth Cordless Phone - The Ultimate Cordless Home Phone

!±8± The Bluetooth Cordless Phone - The Ultimate Cordless Home Phone

The convergence of Bluetooth and DECT technologies is finally getting some traction. Within a year or two the standard cordless home phone will almost certainly be a Bluetooth cordless phone. VTech is pushing the pace with a steady drum beat of announcements, but the pack is now catching up.

Bluetooth cordless phones have now been released by manufacturers including:
Uniden: CellLink ELBT595 cordless flip phone with Bluetooth connectivity Siemens Gigaset: SL785 DECT Bluetooth phone AT&T EP5632 5.8 GHz digital Bluetooth phone GE 28128EE2 DECT 6.0 Series cell fusion phone Panasonic KX-TH1212B Link-to-Cell Bluetooth DECT 6.0 phone Panasonic KX-TG9381T Bluetooth cordless phone - 2 line phone

VTech differentiates it's phones by focusing on (a) sleek design, and (b) leadership in DECT-Bluetooth convergence. It's successfully established itself as a leader in cordless phone technology with this dual pronged strategy.

VTech manufactured phones are sold under several brand names in addition to VTech. It's also manufactured AT&T cordless telephones under license since 2000. That connection may explain the success of the AT&T EP5632. It was first cordless Bluetooth phone that could be relied upon to pair consistently with a cell phone. Even Panasonic's first effort - the KX-TH1212B was a hit a miss affair.

The first generation of cordless Bluetooth telephones were designed to link with one or two cell phones. That enabled cell phone calls to be made from cordless handsets. It also meant that inbound cell phone calls could be answered from any handset. The benefits of this included greater convenience and improved cell phone reception. In most cases a cell phone will automatically pair with a cordless base unit on walking in the front door. It's then possible to park the cell phone in a charging cradle and use cordless handsets until it's time to go out once again.

VTech released it's first generation DECT Bluetooth phone - the VTech LS6245 in January 2009. In addition to all the usual features offered by DECT 6.0 cordless phones, it enables users to make and receive both cell and landline calls via a cordless telephone handset. It's also an ultra sleek cordless phone.

In September 2009 VTech released a second generation Bluetooth cordless phone - the VTech DS6321. In addition to the features offered by the LS6245, it allows up to 6,000 entries to be downloaded from a cell phone address book via Bluetooth technology. It's such an obviously useful and complimentary feature it's surprising that it took until September '09 for a manufacturer to make it available. At about the same time Panasonic released a 2 line cordless phone with a similar capability - the Panasonic KX-TG9381T.

The DECT Bluetooth Phone

Cordless phone manufacturers are now concentrating their efforts on DECT 6.0 cordless phones. They're cheaper to manufacture and DECT is recognized as a global cordless phone standard. To that end we are seeing hardly any new 5.8 GHz phones with Bluetooth. Almost all new Bluetooth cordless telephones are built on DECT 6.0 technology. We are quietly confident in predicting that the standard cordless home phone within a few years will be a Bluetooth telephone.

The VTech Cordless Phone

!±8± The VTech Cordless Phone

VTech cordless phones offer many different models, some that allow you to add anywhere up to twelve accessory handsets to your existing base set and still only use one phone jack. It will be quite easy for you to create a multi handset phone system in your home or office.

They offer a range of phones that have DECT 6.0 technology. This is currently the latest technology and it will give you increased range without needing to boost the power. This technology is currently only used on cordless phones and you will get superior sound quality from any VTech cordless phone that includes this technology.

Some phones offer 5.8 GHz technology. With this technology you will get great clarity and security. The frequency band that it uses is less congested than some other bands like the 2.4 GHz band, and that results in less interference.

They offer a variety of great features. This includes multi handset systems that consist of a base that is expandable to up to twelve handsets. Many of the VTech models include four or five additional handsets already, but even with most of those, you can add more, the base performing as the standard phone that you plug into a socket and a phone jack. All additional phones will only need to be plugged into an electrical outlet.

Some VTech phones that offer multi handsets come bundled. So if there are only two or three of you living in the same house or apartment, a bundled set will work very well for you. Many VTech cordless phones also offer Bluetooth connectivity.

Many VTech cordless telephones offer an answering machine system. This is great for large families and small offices. These models supply tapeless operation and individual voice mail boxes. The handset and base speaker phones afford you hands free conversations.

A VTech cordless telephone offers many different features. You may want to go online and do a comparison of features for all their models. This will ensure that you purchase the phone that will fit all of your needs.

DECT 6.0 - Cordless Phones That Meet the Hype

!±8± DECT 6.0 - Cordless Phones That Meet the Hype

You've likely heard the ballyhoo after every major cordless phone technology update. This Megahertz and that Gigahertz were all supposed to provide incredible range and amazing clarity. Well, the new-to-the-U.S. DECT cordless phone technology (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications or 1.9 GHz) really does live up to the hype. Although all DECT 6.0 cordless phones are not created equal, most DECT phone models provide a winning balance between exceptional voice clarity and suitable-to-fantastic range.

Why is DECT so special?
Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications is nothing more than a digital wireless communication technology that operates at 1.9 GHz. It's popular with manufacturers (a good thing for consumers) because it's a global standard, enabling them to produce fewer models to satisfy the needs of all countries. In general and all other technology components being equal, the lower the frequency, the longer the physical range you'll get with your cordless phone. Phones that operate at lower frequencies (remember your old 49 MHz cordless phone from 1988) are also prone to much more interference, which significantly reduces voice clarity. When manufacturers launched phones at the higher frequencies, the opposite occurred as you might expect. Voice clarity improved dramatically with digital 5.8 GHz models, but physical range became a genuine problem.....especially in all the growing number of McMansions in the U.S. Some DECT 6.0 cordless phones can get up to 1000 ft of range from the base outdoors.

Though frequency is only one feature to examine in the search for a cordless phone, a DECT 6.0 phone is the best bet in today's cordless phone market as long as all included features meet your needs. It's also dedicated to cordless communication in residential, commercial and public environments, so you're unlikely to be interfering with other home electronics. Besides premium voice quality and extended range, DECT technology is inherently more efficient with battery life. It's not uncommon to see some DECT models with up to 12 hours of talk time, which can be ideal for those who work at home.

Which DECT Phone to Select?
First and foremost, look for a global brand you can trust. Because DECT is a global standard - where launching a U.S. product is much less expensive than in the past, you'll see lots of "import brands" hitting the market. Price points vary depending on brand and features, but most DECT phones are at the same or lower cost than the 5.8 GHz phones they're succeeding. Consider your usage as well. Will you be using the phone in a home office where you'll need a headset jack? Surprisingly, only some DECT models have included a headset jack. Will you need multiple handsets? While most models are expandable, be cautious that a few are locked into the one included handset. There are many more features available, but most DECT phones handle core functionality (excellent voice quality and good range) really well. Look for reviews and comparisons online and consider asking your retailer for recommendations.

Cordless Phone Digital Answering Machine

!±8± Cordless Phone Digital Answering Machine

Even in the days of cell phones, many people find it convenient and downright necessary to have a landline. Instead of burning up those cell phone minutes, pick up your home phone and dial away. Almost every company these days has unlimited long distance calling associated with their land line plans. This is of course good for the consumer.

Many companies are building cordless phones with a built in digital answering machine. These cordless phone systems have two hand sets and two bases for charging. At one of the bases, there is a digital answering machine built into the unit. They are generally simple and easy to use. If you spend a lot of time on the phone each day working from home, these little units are indispensable. When one handset goes dead, throw it on the charger and grab another.

Let's take a look at some of the units on the market today. Hopefully this will help you pick the model that is right for our specific application and fits into your price range. Since there are plenty of them out there, it is best to arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible about the specific brands.

AT&T EL52209: This is your basic entry level model. Listing at around .00 this unit boasts voice clarity using the latest DECT technology. It offers the features that most people want such as Caller ID, and Voicemail Indicator. The drawback to this unit is that it lacks a headset jack and can only accommodate three handsets. So if you want to expand and use multiple headsets, with this unit you will only be able to add one.

The Panasonic KX-TG1032S is the next phone up on the block and gets the best ratings from both experts and people that own the phone. Starting at around .00 this phone features the very latest in DECT Technology which means that you will not get any interference from your WI-FI network or any other home electronic gadget. It does have a headset jack, and this unit can accommodate up to six headsets that cost about .00 each. This phone also has higher end models that feature talking caller ID and those phones rate high also.

The Radio Shack 43-140 cordless phone is rated as the best cordless phone for people with hearing or vision difficulties. Most users say they can hear everything loud and clear on this phone. It also has flashing lights when it is ringing, big buttons that light up, and talking caller id. It includes a corded phone on the base and one cordless handset. The only drawback to this phone is that you can not add more handsets to the system. Another drawback is that it does not employ DECT Technology. It uses the old 5.8 GHz

System, but we found very few user complaints.

This should give you a good starting point for purchasing a cordless phone with a digital answering machine. There are many variations on every phone, and with a little research you can find the one that best suits your needs. For more information and links to specific companies, please visit Answering Machine.
